With Conventional Instrument Cluster
Fig. 3 Ignition Lock Cylinder Removal:
1. On models equipped with airbag, disarm airbag system as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
4. Rotate ignition switch to the Run position, then working through steering column lower shroud, Fig. 3, depress lock cylinder retaining pin with suitable 1/8 inch drill.
5. Pull ignition lock cylinder from housing.
6. Remove steering column trim shrouds.
7. Remove lower lefthand and radio trim panel attaching screws, then pull rearward to unclip.
8. On Taurus models, remove clock assembly.
9. On all models, remove cluster finish panel attaching screws and jam nut located behind headlamp switch, then rock finish panel outer edge rearward to remove.
10. On models equipped with column shift, disconnect PRND1 indicator from column.
11. On 1989 models, disconnect speedometer cable at transaxle.
12. On 1990-92 models, disconnect upper speedometer cable from lower cable in engine compartment.
13. On all models, remove four instrument cluster attaching screws, then pull cluster rearward.
14. Disconnect cluster electrical connectors, then depress cable latch to disengage speedometer cable while pulling cable from cluster.
15. Remove instrument cluster.
16. Reverse procedure to install.
17. On models equipped with airbag, reactivate airbag system as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
