Rear Door Window Glass: Service and Repair
Removal
1. Remove door trim panel and watershield. Doors
2. Remove glass-to-glass bracket attaching rivets. Remove center pin from rivets with a drift punch. Drill head from each rivet with 1/4-inch diameter drill. Lower glass approximately 152mm (6 inches) and let it rest in door well.
3. Remove door window glass inner stabilizer retaining screw, and remove stabilizer assembly.
4. Remove retainer and division bar glass run attaching screw and washer assembly at bottom.
5. Remove screw and washer assembly at top of division bar at door frame. Tilt division bar and main glass forward and remove weatherstrip from top of door frame.
6. Remove stationary vent glass and weatherstrip from door frame.
7. Position retainer, division bar and main glass in upright position. Pull main glass and division bar above and outside door frame. Swing the assemblies (glass and division bar) 90 degrees from door frame and work glass and division bar upward and out of door channel between belt mouldings.
Installation
Rear door glass, rear door window glass channel, division bar glass run, and retainer and division bar assembly are preassembled prior to installation. Preassemble as follows:
1. Install glass channel to glass using glass Everseal tape or equivalent 1 .65mm thick x 44.45mm wide x 450.85mm long (.065 inch thick x 1-3/4 inches wide x 17-3/4 inches long). Be sure to align notches in glass to cutouts within glass channel. Clear tape from channel cutouts for installing glass guides (Step 2).
2. Install two nylon guides into glass channel slots and snap mylar flocked glass run over glass channel.
3. Lubricate the inside section of retainer and division bar assembly with Silicone Lubricant D7AZ-19553-A or equivalent. Place retainer and division bar assembly over nylon guides and slide over glass channel.
4. Install run assembly into door frame (front and top of door). Leave last 152mm (6 inches) of run assembly next to division bar hanging loose out of door frame.
5. While holding rear door glass, retainer and division bar 90 degrees from door, insert retainer and division bar between door belt weatherstrip. Swing glass inboard to belt and install loosely in door channel. (The upper front corner of glass should touch beltline in this position.)
NOTE: Lubricate belt and vent weatherstrips with Silicone Lubricant D7AZ-1 9553-A or equivalent soapy solution for easier installation.
6. Subassemble fixed rear window glass and weatherstrip and install firmly into rear of door frame.
7. Set main glass and retainer and division bar into position and install top screw and washer assembly. Ensure that sealer at screw head covers hole for tight seal.
8. Install loose 152mm (6 inches) of run assembly (Step 4) into door frame and division bar. Install remaining flocked run into frame.
9. Install retainer and division bar attaching screw.
10. Install window glass inner stabilizer assembly with attaching screw.
11. Install two glass-to-glass bracket rivets or use 1/4-inch-20 x1 hex head bolts and 1/4-inch-20 nuts (equivalent metric retainers may also be used).
NOTE: Torque must not exceed 4-7 N m (3-5 lb-ft).
12. Install retainer assembly rear door glass. Run front lower (front guide) with upper bracket locked into frame and loosely attach bottom bracket to front face of door (hinge face) with screw and washer assembly. Install flocked run into front guide. Lower glass to make sure there is no binding. Tighten screw and washer assembly.
13. Install door watershield and trim panel.
