Venturi Valve Wide Open Throttle Opening

PREADJUSTMENT CHECK

Venturi Valve:





NOTE: These checks are to preformed without removing the carburetor from the vehicle.
1. Fabricate a gauge to .390-.410 inch (9.91-10.41 mm).
2. Place transmission in PARK and turn engine OFF.
3. Push accelerator pedal to the floor and block it to simulate wide open throttle (WOT).
NOTE: Ensure the throttle lever is against the WOT stop.
4. Remove air cleaner, then lightly push venturi valve toward "close position" and check gap between valve and venturi opening wall.
5. Push venturi valve "wide open to stop" and check gap between valve and venturi opening wall. This is the WOT (maximum) opening which is set on the WOT adjusting screw.
6. If the gaps are out of specification, then the carburetor must be removed and adjustments made.


ADJUSTMENT

Carburetor:





NOTE: Refer to SPECIFICATIONS for gap specifications.

1. Remove carburetor from engine.
2. Remove expansion plug covering venturi valve limiter adjustment screw (center punch until loose).
3. Remove (WOT) stop adjustment screw and spring, using a 5/32-inch Allen wrench.
4. Hold throttle plates wide open, lightly push venturi valve toward "close position" and check gap between valve and venturi opening wall. Set the closing gap specification.
5. Using a 5/64-inch Allen wrench, turn venturi valve limiter adjustment screw (on the venturi valve arm) to set closing gap to specification.
6. Install the throttle (WOT) stop adjustment screw and spring, using a 5/32 inch wrench.
7. Lightly push venturi valve "wide open to stop" and check gap between valve and air horn wall.
8. Turn throttle (WOT) stop adjustment screw until the maximum opening is to specification.
9. Install new expansion plug and install carburetor on engine
