Powertrain Control Module Replacement

POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM/EEC) REPLACEMENT

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM/EEC) MUST BE REPLACED. INFORM OWNERS THAT APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES (16 KILOMETERS) OF DRIVING IS REQUIRED FOR THE PCM/EEC TO ADAPT TO THE ENGINE.

Removal

1. Record radio stations for reprogramming upon completion of this procedure.

2. Disconnect negative battery cable.

3. Remove RH cowl side trim panel.

4. Remove lower closure panel.

5. Remove glovebox assembly.

6. Remove PCM/EEC corner cover panel.








7. Refer to Figures 2 and 3. Disconnect and position harness connectors in the area out of the way.

8. Disconnect PCM/EEC 60 pin connector.

9. Refer to Figure 2. Remove hidden screw at PCM/EEC retainer.

10. Remove PCM/EEC.

Installation

1. Position new PCM/EEC.

2. Install hidden screw at PCWEEC retainer.

3. Refer to Figure 3. Connect PCM/EEC 60 pin connector and tighten retaining bolt.

4. Properly position harness.

5. Install PCM/EEC corner cover panel.

6. Install glovebox assembly.

7. Install lower closure panel.

8. Install right side cowl trim panel.

9. Reconnect battery cable. Reprogram radio stations and clock.

10. Start engine. Let the engine idle for 30 seconds to permit the engine idle to adapt. INFORM THE OWNER THAT THE NEW PCM/EEC WILL REQUIRE ABOUT 10 MILES (16 KILOMETERS) OF DRIVING TO BECOME FULLY ADAPTED TO THE ENGINE.
