Cabin Temperature Sensor / Switch: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Remove the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the LH and the RH instrument panel moulding assemblies.
3. Remove the cluster finish panel screws made visible in Step 1 and also the six screws along the top surface of the cluster finish panel.
4. Remove the knob from the headlamp auto dim switch (pull off).
5. Remove the headlamp switch shaft.
a. Locate the headlamp switch assembly body under the instrument panel.
b. Push the spring loaded shaft release button located on the side of the switch body and simultaneously pull out the headlamp switch shaft.
6. Remove the steering column close out bolster panel by removing the two screws on the left side, one screw on the right side, and three screws from the bottom.
7. Remove the two screws retaining the steering column close out bolster panel bracket and remove the bracket.
8. Lower the steering column.
a. Remove the PRNDL/cable assembly.
1. Place the the shift lever in to the "L" position.
2. Remove the PRNDL cable from the steering column arm.
3. Remove the bolt the from steering column PRNDL bracket.
b. Remove the four nuts holding the steering column and let the steering column rest on the front seat.
9. Remove the cluster finish panel.

NOTE: Remove the electrical connectors from the accessory push-button switches.

10. Remove the center finish panel.

NOTE: The center finish panel is retained by two screws on the top and two snap-in tabs on the bottom.

a. Remove the two top screws and gently rock the top back while unsnapping the bottom from the instrument panel.
b. Remove the electrical connector from the clock.

ATC Temperature Sensor Removal:






11. Grasp the handle on the front of the sensor assembly, remove the two screws and rotate the sensor down and out of the instrument panel.
12. Disconnect the electrical lead and the air hose from the sensor.

INSTALLATION
1. Connect the electrical lead and the air hose to the sensor.
2. Using the handle on the front of the sensor, position the sensor on the instrument panel and install the two attaching screws.
3. Install the electrical connector to the clock on the center finish panel.
4. Install the center finish panel by snapping in the bottom and using two screws at the top.
5. Position the cluster finish panel.
6. Raise the steering column and install four nuts to the steering column bracket.
7. Install the bolt to the steering column PRNDL bracket.
8. Install the PRNDL cable to the steering column arm.
9. Position the steering column close out bolster panel and bracket and install it with two screws.
10. Install the steering column close out bolster panel.
11. Install the cluster finish panel screws.
12. Install the headlamp switch knob/shaft assembly, (a snap lock fit).
13. Install the headlamp auto/dim knob.
14. Position the LH and the RH instrument panel molding assemblies and install them by snapping into place.
15. Connect the battery ground cable.

NOTE: On vehicles equipped with Electronic Engine Control (EEC), when the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the EEC processor relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the strategy.
