Ignition Switch: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove trim ring from around ignition lock, by grasping and pulling straight out.
3. If necessary, remove under cover and side lap duct cover from drivers side of instrument panel.
4. Remove screw attaching A/C duct assembly to access panel support bracket, if equipped.
5. Remove two attaching screw, then remove access panel support bracket.
6. Remove side window defroster duct located under steering column, by grasping ends of duct and pulling outward with a slight twisting motion.
7. Remove ignition switch wiring harness snap retainer and strap connector, by disengaging lock tangs.
8. Remove four bolts attaching steering column to instrument, then lower steering column.
9. Remove screw attaching ignition switch to housing, Fig. 2, then grasp body of switch and pull straight out.
10. Disconnect electrical connectors from ignition switch. Note location of wires for installation.
11. Reverse procedure to install.
