Ignition Control Module: Service and Repair

Ignition Module:





Removal

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.

2. Remove the distributor cap, rotor, and dust cover.

3. Use a puller to remove the armature from the rotor shaft.

Ignition Module:





4. Disconnect three wiring harness connectors from the ignition module terminals and remove two module mounting screws. Remove the module.

Installation

1. Coat the module mounting surface with a thin film of Silicone Dielectric Compound or equivalent, and mount on the heat sink with two screws.

2. Note the differing lengths of the module harness leads, and connect them to the module terminals accordingly.

3. Align the armature with the flat and pin groove on the rotor shaft and, with the stamped (counterclockwise arrow) side out, push it onto the rotor shaft. If necessary, use a suitably sized socket and hand pressure to seat the armature.

4. Install the dust cover, rotor, and distributor cap.

5. Connect the battery negative cable.
