QUICK TEST: Key On Engine Off 3.0 Self-Test

SPECIAL NOTES:

^ The STAR tester should sound, or the analog VOM will pulse for three seconds after the key is turned on.

^ It may be necessary to repair non-electronic faults before running QUICK TEST. Refer to Section 55-01, Diagnostic Routines.

^ If no codes are emitted, proceed to Engine Running Self-Test.

^ If no codes are emitted and the symptom is a no-start, crank engine for 30 seconds without turning key off while performing key on engine off self-test. Check for codes while cranking. If no codes are emitted proceed to pinpoint test step Q1.

HOW TO RUN THE KEY ON ENGINE OFF SELF-TEST

[DO] (MIL EQUIPPED VEHICLES)

^ Verify that the vehicle has been properly prepared according to QUICK TEST STEPS 1.0 and 2.0.

^ Latch center button on STAR tester (or jump STI to ground for VOM).

^ Place ignition key in the ON position.

^ Turn STAR tester or VOM on.

^ Activate Self-Test.

- STAR Tester: Unlatch and relatch the center button in the down position.

- Analog VOM: Disconnect and reconnect the jumper wire from STI to ground.

^ Record all service codes displayed, then erase codes and retest. Address only the codes that occur during retest.

^ Go to PART B of Key On Engine Off Self-Test.

[DO] (NON-MIL EQUIPPED VEHICLES)

^ Verify that the vehicle has been properly prepared according to QUICK TEST STEPS 1.0 and 2.0.

^ Place ignition key in the ON position.

^ Activate Self-Test.

- Analog VOM: Turn VOM on.

^ Record service code displayed.

NOTE: On Non-Mil vehicles, service codes are displayed one at a time beginning with the lowest code. The first code will be displayed repeatedly until repairs have been made. The next service code (if any) will then be displayed. Erasing of codes is not required on Non-Mil vehicles.

^ Go to Part B of Key On Engine Off Self-Test.

[DON'T]

^ Depress throttle during Key On Engine Off Self-Test.
