1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove instrument panel as follows:
a. Remove instrument panel under covers.
b. Remove lap duct panel from instrument panel.
c. Disconnect heater control cables at doors located on blower case.
d. Disconnect speedometer cable, then disconnect three electrical connectors from rear of instrument cluster.
e. Remove brace located below lap duct, then remove lap duct and defroster duct.
f. Remove steering column lower cover, then remove four steering column mounting bolts and lower steering column.
g. Remove glove box attaching screws, then remove glove box from instrument panel.
h. Remove nut attaching hood release cable to instrument panel and position cable aside.
i. Position front seats in the full forward position, the remove two rear console attaching screws.
j. Position front seats in the full rearward position, then remove two screws attaching rear console to rear console.
k. Pull rear console upward and rearward to remove.
l. Remove gear shift lever knob, then remove four front console attaching screws.
m. Remove front console and side panels.
n. Remove lower trim panel located beneath radio, then remove instrument panel mounting bolt covers, Fig. 12.
o. Remove nine instrument panel attaching bolts and two attaching nuts.
p. Lift upward on instrument panel and pull slightly outward, then disconnect antenna lead, radio electrical connectors, blower electrical connector and three instrument panel electrical connectors located at lower left corner of instrument panel.
q. Carefully remove instrument panel.
3. Drain cooling system, then disconnect heater hoses at heater core. Cap heater core tubes to prevent coolant spillage during removal.
4. Disconnect defroster and main air duct from heater case.
5. Remove carpet panel from beneath heater case.
6. Detach wiring harness braces from heater case.
7. Remove three lower brace attaching screws, then remove brace.
8. Remove two lower heater case mounting bolts, then two upper heater case mounting nuts.
9. Remove mounting nut from passenger side of heater case, then disconnect lower duct from heater case.
10. Pull heater case straight rearward, using care not to damage heater core tubes.
11. Remove three attaching screws, then remove heater core cover, Fig. 13.
12. Remove heater core tube braces, then remove heater core by pulling straight out.
13. Remove clip, then remove extension outlet tube.
14. Loosen clamp, then remove extension inlet tube.
15. Reverse procedure to install.
