ISSUE: The passive restraint system warning chime and lamp may come on intermittently while the emergency release levers are in the full down position. This may be caused by a release lever that does not make sufficient contact with the retractor switch button.
FIGURE 1:
ACTION: Install a rubber bumper between the retractor switch holders. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. Remove the emergency release lever handles. Refer to the Escort/Tempo/Topaz Shop Manual, Section 41-54 for service details.
2. Remove the center floor console cover. Refer to the Escort/Tempo/Topaz Shop Manual, Section 45-31 for service details.
3. Remove the retractor switch covers that snap-on top of the retractor switches.
4. Install the rubber bumper, (N805510-S) between the retractor switch holders, Figure 1.
5. Reinstall the retractor switch covers.
6. Reinstall the center floor console cover.
7. Reinstall the release lever handles.
8. Position both emergency release levers in the full down position.
