FORD: 1989 CROWN VICTORIA, TEMPO
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1989 GRAND MARQUIS, TOPAZ
ISSUE: Poor, weak or no "AM" reception on a electronic search radio with a cassette player may be caused by an antenna connector short inside the radio chassis.
ACTION: Use the following procedure to determine if the radio needs to be removed and sent to an authorized repair center for service.
NOTE: DO NOT DISCONNECT THE ANTENNA CABLE COMPLETELY. ELECTRICAL CONNECTION MUST BE MAINTAINED FOR "AM" RADIO RECEPTION.
1. Pull out the antenna cable connector about 1/4" from the radio chassis socket. If "AM" reception improves, proceed to Step 2. If "AM" reception does not improve, refer to the appropriate Car Shop Manual, Section 35-10.
2. Remove the radio chassis and return it to an authorized repair center for service. Refer to radio service bulletin AR-2-89 for detailed service instructions.
