Ignition Control Module: Service and Repair




Removal
1. Remove screws attaching leaf screen to top of cowl assembly. Separate engine compartment/cowl seal strip from leaf screen and cowl dash extension panel in area of TFI module assembly. Remove leaf screen.
2. Disconnect harness connector, latch is under TFI module shroud, from module assembly.
3. Remove nut/washer assemblies attaching TFI/heatsink assembly to cowl dash extension panel. Remove TFI/heatsink assembly. (This assembly is mounted with fins pointed down.)
4. Remove retaining screws and TFI module from heatsink. Hold module connector shroud with one hand, and pull seal off other end of module.

Installation
1. Coat metal base plate of TFI module uniformly with silicone compound. Place module onto heatsink. Install & tighten retaining screws. (15-35 lb-in.)
2. Push seal over module connector shroud and heatsink studs with metal part toward heatsink. Then insert module/heatsink assembly into cowl dash extension panel enough that mounting studs protrude into the engine compartment side.
3. Hand tighten nut/washer assemblies, and tighten nuts to 44-70 lb-in.
4. Connect wire harness connector to TFI assembly. Install leaf screen and screws, and engine compartment/cowl panel and seal strip.
