Fuel Pressure Regulator: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Verify fuel rail assembly is depressurized by removing fuel tank cap and releasing pressure from fuel system at pressure relief valve on fuel rail assembly.
2. Remove vacuum line at pressure regulator.
3. Remove three retaining screws from regulator housing and discard.
4. Remove pressure regulator assembly, gasket and O-ring. Discard gasket and O-ring.
NOTE: If scraping is necessary, be careful not to damage fuel pressure regulator or fuel rail gasket surfaces.
INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate new fuel pressure regulator O-ring.
NOTE: Never use silicone grease. It will clog the injectors.
2. Ensure gasket surfaces of fuel pressure regulator and fuel rail assembly are clean.
3. Install new O-ring and new gasket on regulator.
4. Install fuel pressure regulator on fuel rail assembly. Tighten three retaining screws to 34 lb. in. (4.0 N-m).
5. Install vacuum line to regulator.
6. Install fuel cap at tank.
7. Connect battery ground cable.
8. Turn key ON/OFF several times without starting engine to check for fuel leaks.
9. Check all connections at fuel rails, push connect fittings, etc.
10. Start engine and check for fuel leaks.
