Oil Pump Tip Clearance:

Oil Pump Rotor Endplay:

1. Wash all parts in suitable solvent, then dry with compressed air.
2. Ensure all dirt and particles are removed.
3. Inspect inner pump housing for wear or damage.
4. Inspect pump cover mating surface for wear, scuff marks are normal, if surface is worn or grooved, replace pump assembly.
5. Inspect rotor for nicks, burrs or score marks, remove imperfections with suitable oil stone.
6. Using suitable feeler gauge, measure inner tip to outer rotor tip clearance, Fig. 15, clearance on 1989 models, should not exceed .010 inch, clearance on 1990-91 models, should not exceed .012 inch, on 1992-94 models, clearance should be .0024-.0071 inch.
7. Install suitable straightedge, then using feeler gauge, measure rotor endplay, Fig. 16, on 1989-91 models, clearance should not exceed .005 inch, on 1992-94 models, clearance should be .0012-.0035 inch.
8. If any inspection is not as indicated, replace oil pump assembly.
