Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve: Testing and Inspection

This system cycles crankcase gasses back through the engine to be burned. The valve regulates the amount of ventilating air and blow-by gas to the intake manifold and prevents backfire from traveling into the crankcase.

TESTING PCV VALVE
1. If valve does not rattle when shaken, replace valve.
2. With engine at idle, disconnect hose from air intake runner and feel for vacuum at hose.
3. If no vacuum is available, check for vacuum back through system at filler cap, PCV valve, hoses and oil separator and for proper bolt torque or gasket leak at rocker cover, servicing as necessary.
