FIGURE 16:
ISSUE: The intermediate band setting procedure for vehicles built after 4/01/88 has been revised. This new adjusting procedure applies only to vehicles where the part number on the transmission identification tag starts with 88 or later, see Figure 16.
FIGURE 17:
ACTION: Use the following intermediate band adjusting procedure.
1. Disconnect the kickdown cable from the kickdown lever on the transmission.
2. Loosen the locknuts on the band adjusting screws and back off the adjusting screw two turns.
3. Tighten both adjusting screws to 10 ft.lbs. (13 N-m) using band adjustment torque wrench T71P-77370-A or equivalent. Refer to Figure 17.
4. Back off the intermediate band adjusting screw 2-1/2 turns (see "A" in Figure 17) and back off the overdrive band adjusting screw 2 turns (see "B" in Figure 17).
5. Hold the adjusting screws from turning and tighten the locknuts to 35-45 ft.lbs. (48-61 N-m).
6. Reconnect the kickdown cable to the kickdown lever.
