Front Seats
NOTE: If the retractor of a new seat belt assembly has been mounted into a damaged or distorted area the new retractor may be mounted at an incorrect angle. Non-extension of webbing may result. Service mounting area as necessary and install retractor.REMOVAL
1. Remove D-ring retainer. Remove edge of front and rear door weatherstrips from edge of pillar trim panels. Remove attaching screw from pillar center trim panel. Remove panel.
2. Remove webbing guide attaching screws and guide.
3. Remove upper pillar trim attaching screw and remove trim.
4. If driver's side D-ring mounting plate is to be detached, remove two Torx bolts retaining D-ring mount plate to pillar.
NOTE: The D-ring mounting plate is a separate service item and should be replaced if vehicle has sustained accident damage.
5. Remove attaching screws from lower trim panel at base of pillar. Remove panel.
6. Remove cap from lap belt anchor bolt. Remove bolt, spacer, belt anchor, and paper washer.
7. Remove retractor attaching bolt. Remove retractor assembly and paper washer.
NOTE: Replace buckle and tongue assembly only as a matched set.
8. Detach seat belt warning switch wiring connector (driver side only) at inboard buckle assembly base. Disconnect electrically operated seat wiring connector.
9. Remove five bolts securing front seat to floorpan. Remove seat.
10. Detach buckle assembly by removing two Torx retaining bolts.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: Ensure that seat belt buckle assembly retaining bolts engage weld nuts in seat bracket. The forward mounting hole is not equipped with a weld nut and cannot be used for seat belt buckle assembly installation.
1. Attach two seat belt buckle assembly to seat bracket Torx head retaining bolts. Tighten bolts to 20-30 Nm (15-22 ft lbs).
2. Install seat into vehicle. Tighten seat attachment bolts to 24-28 Nm (18-21 ft lbs). On driver side only, install seat belt warning switch wiring connector located at base of inboard buckle assembly.
3. Install seat wiring connector located beneath seat.
4. Install washer, retractor, and attaching bolt on side of pillar. Ensure tang on retractor mounting bracket engages hole in sill panel. Tighten attaching bolt to 25-45 Nm (18-33 ft lbs).
5. Pull seat belt webbing from retractor.
CAUTION: Keep fingers away from ratcheting mechanism when installing retractor mechanism.
6. Ensure that belt webbing is not twisted. Install D-ring retainer.
7. Install webbing guide on pillar. Ensure webbing guide does not trap webbing at attachment points. Webbing should move freely through guide. Tighten attaching screws to 3.0-3.5 Nm (2.2-2.6 ft lbs).
8. Install washer, lap belt anchor, bushing and attaching bolt on sill. Tighten attaching bolt to 25-45 Nm (18-33 ft lbs). Install cap on attaching bolt.
9. Install lower trim panel. Tighten attaching screws.
10. If upper D-ring mounting plate on driver's side has been removed, install plate and tighten Torx head pillar to D-ring mounting plate retaining bolts to 25-45 Nm (18-33 ft lbs).
11. Install pillar center trim panel and attaching screw.
12. Install pillar upper trim panel and attaching screws.
13. Install D-ring retainer. Tighten nut (driver's side), or bolt (passenger side) to 25-45 Nm (18-33 ft lbs). Ensure D-ring rotates smoothly.
14. Press edge of front and rear door weatherstrips into place.
15. Test operation of seat belt assembly with vehicle on level ground. Belt should run smoothly in both directions.
