Fig. 8 Camshaft Endplay Measurement:

1. Drain cooling system and engine oil.
2. Remove engine front cover as previously described.
3. Remove camshaft sprocket attaching bolt, then the sprocket and timing chain.
4. If necessary, remove crankshaft sprocket using tool No. T71P-7137-H or equivalent.
5. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Ensure sprocket keyways are properly aligned when installing gears.
b. Check camshaft endplay as shown in Fig. 8. Position dial indicator point on camshaft attaching screw, then zero the dial indicator. Position a screwdriver between sprocket and engine block, then pull camshaft forward and release it. If reading exceeds .009 inch, replace thrust plate.
c. Ensure timing marks are properly aligned when installing crankshaft sprocket.
d. Torque camshaft sprocket attaching bolt to specification.
