Fuel Pressure Release: Service and Repair
WARNING: Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.
CAUTION: Fuel supply lines will remain pressurized for long periods of time after engine shut down. This pressure must be relieved before servicing of the fuel system is begun. A valve is provided on the throttle body for this purpose. Remove the air cleaner and relieve system pressure by using Rotunda pressure gauge tool T80L-9974-A or equivalent and drain the system through the drain tube.
Before opening the fuel system on vehicles with EFI engines, relieve fuel pressure using either of the following procedures.
1. Remove fuel tank cap.
Disconnect vacuum hose from fuel pressure regulator located on the engine fuel rail. Using a hand Vacuum Pump D83C-7059-A or equivalent, apply approximately 842 kPa (25 in.Hg.) pressure to the pressure regulator.
NOTE: Fuel pressure will be released into the fuel tank through the fuel return hose.
2. Connect Fuel Pressure Gauge TBOL-9974-B or equivalent with Extension Hose D85L-9974-B or equivalent, to Schrader valve on fuel supply manifold place drain hose into suitable container and depress drain valve.
