Seat Lumbar Support - Revised Service Procedure

MERKUR: 1988-89 SCORPIO
ISSUE: The front seat lumbar support may leak air because of a punctured air cushion.
ACTION: Install a new lumbar support assembly using a revised tube attachment procedure. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
REMOVAL
1. Remove the front seat assembly. Refer to the 1988/90 Scorpio Shop Manual, Section 41-20, for service details.
2. Remove the headrest and bezels.
a. Straighten the seat back rest cover retaining tangs.
b. Pull the cover up to expose the seat back pad support.

3. Remove the two clamp retaining screws from the tube on the seat cushion, Figure 1.

4. Remove the six (6) springs which hold the seat back pad support and remove the assembly, Figure 2.

INSTALLATION
1. Install the new lumbar support assembly to the seat back frame.
2. Install the attached wire hooks into the existing spring retaining holes, Figure 3.
3. Attach the air cushion tube to the cross tube with tape.
4. Install the air cushion tube to the seat base.
NOTE: MAKE SURE THAT THE TUBE IS NOT TWISTED OR KINKED.
5. Install the seat back pad and stretch.
a. Stretch the cover over the retaining tangs.
b. Bend the tangs flat.
6. Install the headrest bezels and headrest.
7. Make Sure the lumbar support works.
8. Install the seat. Refer to the 1988/89 Scorpio Shop Manual, Section 41-20, for service details.
