1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Ensure steering wheel is in straight ahead position.
3. Remove clamp bolt securing upper universal joint to steering column shaft. The clamp is located above the universal joint nearest the dash panel. Swing the clamp plate to one side and allow to hang free.
4. Remove screws retaining upper and lower steering column shrouds, Fig. 73.
5. To remove upper shroud, lower steering column height adjuster.
6. Remove lower shroud, then hood release lever from column tube housing, Fig. 74.
7. Lower steering column.
8. Remove heater louver panels by carefully prying from each side of lower instrument panel pad.
9. Remove four instrument cluster trim panel retaining screws, then the panel, Fig. 75.
10. Remove eight screws securing front and side surfaces of instrument panel pad.
11. Remove four clips securing instrument panel pad to frame.
12. Remove left side footwell lamp, and disconnect electrical connector.
13. Remove two left side trim panel outboard attaching screws.
14. Remove inboard attaching screws, then left side trim panel.

15. Remove six attaching screws at top and side of right side lower trim panel, Fig. 76.
16. Remove ash receptacle, and receptacle bin attaching screws.
17. Rotate ash receptacle bin and remove.
18. Remove console attaching screws from ash receptacle bin cavity, Fig. 77.
19. Pull center finish trim from edge of radio, amplifier and ash receptacle.
20. Remove lamp and cigar lighter electrical connectors from back of center finish trim.

21. Remove fuse holders from auxiliary fuse panel door, mounted inside glove compartment cavity, Fig. 78.
22. Remove two screws securing glove compartment switch assembly. Disconnect electrical connector from switch.
23. Remove right side footwell lamp and disconnect electrical connectors.
24. Remove two attaching nuts from glove compartment cavity.
25. Remove vent control knob from rear console panel, Fig. 79.
26. Remove two screws retaining rear control panel to console.
27. Remove rear control panel from console, disconnect cigar lighter and lamp connectors.
28. Remove two heater control attaching screws, then heater control.
29. Open armrest door to gain and remove two switch panel retaining screws.
30. Remove rear power window switches from floor console to center panel.
31. Remove rear power cutoff switch from floor console center panel.
32. Remove fuel filler door switch from switch console.
33. Remove floor console center panel by lifting rear edge and moving center panel backward to disengage from console, Fig. 80.
34. Remove floor console center panel (with parking brake boot) from parking brake.
35. Remove ash receptacle, then two front console attaching screws.
36. Lift carpet at each side of console to expose attaching screws, then remove screws.
37. Remove two attaching screws inside cassette storage bin.
38. Remove gear selector knob, then the console.
39. Remove gear selector lamp from selector lever guide bracket.

40. Remove four gear selector attaching bolts, then raise gear selector and remove shift rod retaining clip, Fig. 81.
41. Remove shift mechanism and control linkage.
42. Remove clip at edge of lower trim panel near steering column.
43. Pull trim panel forward and lift to release.
44. Reverse procedure to install.
