1. Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
2. Remove rear brake drum and hub assembly as described under ``Wheel Bearing, Replace.''
3. Remove trailing arm and spindle to strut unit attaching bolt, Figs. 4 and 5.
4. Place alignment mark on strut rubber mounting bracket, then from inside vehicle, remove strut attaching nuts and remove strut from tower.
5. Using a suitable spring compressor, compress coil spring.
6. With coil spring compressed, remove remove strut nut, rubber mounting bracket, spring upper seal and spring seat.
7. Carefully release spring compressor and remove coil spring.
8. Reverse procedure to install. Torque spindle to strut attaching bolts to 69 to 86 ft. lbs.
