Deceleration Valve: Testing and Inspection

SYSTEM CHECK

Inspect all wiring and vacuum lines for damage, separations, opens, shorts, blockage and wear. Replace or repair as necessary.

DASHPOT CHECK

When dashpot rod is depressed, it should move in slowly, and when it is released, it should move out quickly. If not, replace dashpot.

COASTING AIR SYSTEM CHECK

Fig. 3 Inhibitor switch connector. Automatic transaxle:

Fig. 4 Disconnecting hose from idle-up solenoid:

1. On manual transaxles, disconnect neutral switch connector, Fig. 2. On automatic transaxle, disconnect inhibitor switch connector, after engine is running, Fig. 3.
2. Disconnect air hose from electrical load idle up solenoid on side that goes to air bypass valve, and plug hose, Fig. 4.
3. Increase engine speed to 3000 RPM.
4. Slowly reduce engine speed, confirming that air is drawn into solenoid valve between 2000 to 3000 RPM. If not, check wiring harness.

WIRING CHECK

Fig. 5 Checking wiring circuit between idle-up solenoid and main relay.:

Fig. 6 Checking wiring circuit between idle-up solenoid and main ECA:

1. With ignition ON, check for 12 volts at yellow/green terminal of idle-up solenoid, Fig. 5. If not, inspect wiring between main relay and idle-up control unit for open or short (yellow/green wire).
2. Check blue wire between idle up solenoid and Electronic Control Assembly (ECA) Fig. 6, for continuity. Repair as required.

SLOW FUEL CUT SOLENOID CHECK

Turn ignition switch ON and OFF. A clicking sound should be heard of felt at solenoid.
