LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1988 TRACER
ISSUE: A rough engine idle or a engine that cranks but will not start may be caused by the fuel injector resistor assembly. If the assembly is exposed to salt spray, the body of the resistor may corrode causing an inoperative condition. The affected vehicles are 1988 Tracers (U.S. only).
ACTION: To correct this, install a new design fuel injector resistor assembly that has the body made of aluminum to resist corrosion. Refer to the following diagnostic, service procedure.
1. Crank the engine over while listening to each fuel injector with a stethoscope. The injectors should make a "clicking" noise.

Manual, Section 55 (Diagnostic Routines).
2. Make sure the 30 amp fuse in main fuse block is good.

4. Measure the resistance between the "B" terminal and terminals 1 through 4 of the Fuel Injector Resistor Assembly, Figure 10. Each of the four (4) readings should be between 5-7 ohms. If the resistance of the Fuel Injector Resistor Assembly is out of specification, replace assembly.
