Campaign - Spark Plug Wire Inspection/Replacement: Overview

SUBJECT: Owner Notification Program 88E75 - Tracer Spark Plug Wires

REFERENCE: Owner Notification Program M65 - Tracer Bumper Covers

REASONS FOR THIS PROGRAM

Some of the involved Tracers may encounter engine misfire or hard starting as a result of spark plug wire abrasion. The wires may show abrasion if they rub against the bottom of the air inlet tube to the throttle body.

VEHICLES AFFECTED

Approximately 57,000 Tracers are involved in this program. Included are 1988-model Tracers built at the Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly Plant from November 1, 1987 through August 11, 1988 and at the Chung Li Assembly Plant during 1988-model production.

IN CARES/ OASIS - DEALERS IN PUERTO RICO & U.S.V.I.

Please be advised that CARES/OASIS is active for this program, because Tracers involved in this program may also be eligible for Owner Notification Program-M65.

PROGRAM PROVISIONS

Owners of affected Tracers will be requested to return their cars for inspection of spark plug wires. Undamaged wires will be secured to a retaining bracket and abraded wires will be replaced. The no-charge service is available with no vehicle time/mileage limitation.

CLAIM SUBMISSION

It is important that all claims be submitted on Forms 1864. See Claims Submission area of Attachment I.

REMOVED PARTS

It is not necessary to return removed parts. Dispose of removed parts according to provisions of the Warranty and Policy Manual.


COMBINED OWNER NOTIFICATION LETTERS

Most of the owners of Tracers involved in this program are also involved in Owner Notification Program M65 - Tracer Bumper Covers. Owners involved in both programs will receive the letter shown on Attachment II. Owners involved in this program for only spark plug wires will receive the letter shown on Attachment III.
