Oil Pump Repairs

Fig. 20 Exploded view of oil pump:

1. Remove oil pump pickup tube and screen, Fig. 20.
2. Remove oil pump cover attaching screws, then remove cover and inner and outer gears.
3. Pry oil seal from pump body, then remove cotter pin retainer, spring and relief valve from pump.

4. Check pump body for wear and damage and replace as necessary. Light scoring is acceptable.
5. Check pump body to outer gear clearance, Fig. 21. Clearance should not exceed .0087 inch.
6. Check inner gear to outer clearance at point of least clearance, Fig. 21. Clearance should not exceed .0078 inch.
7. Using a straight edge and feeler gauge, measure gear endplay Fig. 21. Endplay should not exceed .0055 inch.
8. Check relief for wear and damage and replace as necessary.
9. Install relief valve, spring, retainer and cotter pin on pump housing.
10. Using tool T87C-6019-A or equivalent, install replacement seal into pump body.
11. Install inner and outer gears into pump body, then install cover and attaching screws. Apply a suitable thread locking compound to cover attaching screws before installing.
12. Install gasket, pickup tube and screen. Torque attaching bolts to 69 to 95 inch lbs.
