October, 1989Ford Motor Company is offering a no-charge Service Program (B88) for engines in certain 1988-model Tracers. Our records indicate that you own the following described Tracer.

Reason for This Program
Your Tracer may exhibit a degree of engine oil deterioration. This may be caused by a combination of limited crankcase ventilation and maintenance exceeding the recommended intervals including the driving conditions described in schedule "A" or "B" of your Owner's Manual.
What Might Happen
This condition could result in damage to the engine.
What You Should Do
Telephone your Lincoln-Mercury dealer for a service appointment.
What We Will Do
Your dealer has been instructed to install improved engine crankcase ventilating components. Your dealer will also inspect your engine and, if necessary, replace a venting valve, clean the oil pan, and replace an oil pick-up screen at no charge.
Program Limitations
The no-charge service provided by this program is available through October 1990. After that date, deductible time and mileage provisions of the Powertrain Warranty may be available. If that warranty coverage has expired, the service will be your responsibility. Therefore, it is advisable for you to call your dealer.
How Long Will The Service Take?
The actual time to inspect and install the components is two hours. Your dealer service department may need to keep your Tracer longer because of service schedules and capacity restraints.
Engine Oil
Most automobile engines will perform better and last longer when the engine oil and filters are changed as recommended by the manufacturer. Please read and observe the maintenance guidelines printed in your Tracer Owner's Manual.
Refunds
Your dealer will refund you for this service if you paid to have it performed. For a refund, take the original paid repair order or parts purchase receipt to your LincolnMercury dealer no later than January 31, 1990. The dealer will process a refund if the repair was made prior to the receipt of this letter and is a result of the described condition. Refunds also cover any deductible paid for this condition.
