SAFETY RECALL 88S40 - 1988 TEMPO/TOPAZ - THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TPS) DISENGAGEMENT
Dear Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Ford Motor Company has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1988 Tempo and Topaz vehicles.
Safety Defect The screws that attach the throttle position sensor on your car's engine may loosen and permit the sensor to disengage from the throttle shaft. This condition may prevent the throttle from returning to idle. This could result in the vehicle not slowing down in the normal manner after the driver had released the accelerator pedal. It could create the risk of a vehicle crash.
Warning A driver may be warned of the condition by sluggish engine performance or engine "stumble".
