Affected Vehicles
1988 and 1989 2-wheel drive Tempo and Topaz cars equipped with 2.3L engines built before June 1, 1989.

Reasons for This Program
The fuel pump in some of these cars may become abnormally noisy or may not operate properly. A noisy or improperly operating fuel pump could be caused by a seal in the fuel pump wearing prematurely. This condition could cause reduced fuel pressure which may result in hard starting, loss of engine power or stalling during hot weather.

Program Provisions and Limitations
Owners of affected cars will be notified that a no-charge service program is available if their cars should experience the symptoms described above. This service will be available for 5 years/50,000 miles or through September 30, 1992, whichever provides greater coverage.

Refunds
When all or a portion of the repair covered by the program is paid by the owner and/or the dealer prior to the release of the program, both the owner and/or dealer are eligible for a refund.

Service Action
Cars returned for service under this program will have the fuel pump assembly replaced.
