Removal and Installation


LESS POWER BRAKES
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect stop lamp switch electrical connector and remove switch retainer.
3. Slide stop lamp switch off pedal pin far enough to clear end of pin, then remove switch from pin.
4. From inside engine compartment loosen two master cylinder attaching nuts, then slide master cylinder pushrod, nylon washers and bushings from brake pedal pin.
5. Disconnect brake lines from master cylinder, then remove nuts securing master cylinder to dash panel. List cylinder forward and upward and remove from vehicle.
6. Reverse procedure to install.

WITH POWER BRAKES
1. Disconnect brake lines from master cylinder. Cap all lines and fittings.
2. On late 1983 models and all 1984---86 models, disconnect brake warning lamp switch wire connector.
3. Remove master cylinder to power brake unit attaching nuts, then remove master cylinder.
4. Reverse procedure to install.
