OWNER NOTIFICATION PROGRAM B87 TECHNICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE INSTRUCTIONS


PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS. CIRCULATE THEM TO YOUR PARTS AND SERVICE PERSONNEL. QUESTIONS SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO YOUR FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER OR SUPERVISING FORD LOCATION.

TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS

Continental

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Remove air suspension compressor and dryer assembly.
- Disconnect electrical connector located on compressor.
- Remove air line protector cap from dryer by releasing two latching pins located on bottom of cap 180 degrees apart.
- Disconnect four air lines from dryer.
- Remove three screws retaining air compressor to mounting bracket.

3. Relieve tension on belt tensioner assembly per instructions in Section 27-02 of the Shop Manual. Remove belt from alternator and power steering pump pulley.

4. Remove pulley from shaft using Steering Pump Pulley Tool T69L-10300-B or equivalent.

5. Install pulley on pump shaft using Steering Pump Pulley Replacer T65P-3A733-C or equivalent.

Note: The small diameter threads must be fully engaged in pump shaft before pressing on pulley. Hold screw head and turn nut to install pulley. INSTALL PULLEY FACE FLUSH WITH PUMP SHAFT OR, IF PULLEY ALIGNMENT REQUIRES, WITHIN +/- 0.50 mm (+/- 0.020 inch).

6. Reinstall drive belt per instructions in Section 27-02 of the Shop Manual.

7. Position air suspension compressor and dryer assembly to mounting bracket and install three mounting screws.
- Connect four air lines into dryer.
- Connect electrical connector.
- Install air line protector cap onto dryer.

8. Connect battery ground cable.

9. Verify that air suspension compressor operates.
TAURUS/SABLE

1. Disconnect battery ground cable and remove the horns.

2. Loosen tensioner assembly per instructions in Section 27-02 of the Shop Manual. Remove belt from alternator and power steering pump pulley.

3. Remove pulley from shaft using Steering Pump Pulley Tool T69L-10300-B or equivalent.

4. Install pulley on pump shaft using Steering Pump Pulley Replacer T65P-3A733-C or equivalent.

NOTE: The small diameter threads must be fully engaged in pump shaft before pressing on pulley. Hold screw head and turn nut to install pulley. INSTALL PULLEY FACE FLUSH WITH PUMP SHAFT OR, IF PULLEY ALIGNMENT REQUIRES, WITHIN +/- 0.50 mm (+/- .020 inch).

5. Reinstall drive belt per instructions in Section 27-02 of the Shop Manual.

6. Install the horns and connect battery ground cable.

CLAIMS PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS

Power steering pump pulley replacement provided under this program will be performed at no charge to owners through March 1990.

Claim forms 1863 for this program must include standard claims preparation procedures and the information shown below. Program number B87 must be entered in the Program Code box in the upper left of the forms.

REFUNDS

Refund requests submitted under Owner Notification Program B87 are governed by the following guidelines:

Owners seeking refund for repairs covered by this program, which were performed at their expense prior to the receipt of the notification of this program must present their paid repair orders or invoices to any Ford dealership by March 31, 1990.

A copy of the paid repair orders or parts purchase receipts must be retained in your service file for at least one year following the date of Company notification of payment.

Owner refund requests must be submitted on separate warranty claim forms 1863. In addition to the information shown for the special preparation of Owner Refund claims (Reference: Warranty and Policy Manual), please enter the information shown below:

An administrative allowance of 0.2 hours will be allowed for processing each eligible owner refund request. To claim the allowance, enter ALLOW in the Labor Operation No. column and 0.2 in the Scheduled Time column. Extend the 0.2 hours at your authorized warranty labor rate and enter the result in the Amount column.

Please provide prompt refund to all eligible owners who respond to this program with proper repair documentation.
