REASONS FOR On some of these vehicles the power steering pump pulley
THIS PROGRAM may break causing the pulley to detach. This would affect

the operation of engine accessories such as air conditioning, power steering assist and water pump. If this should occur, the vehicle could still be steered manually. However, greater steering efforts would be necessary.

VEHICLES All 1988-Model 3.8L engine equipped Taurus and Sables
AFFECTED manufactured at the Atlanta and Chicago Assembly Plants and

Continentals manufactured at the Wixom Assembly Plant are affected for the production period of March 1 through July 31, 1988.

IN CARES/OASIS will be activated for this program, since owners
CARES/OASIS are requested to return their cars for service.

PROGRAM Owners of affected cars will be informed that service for
PROVISIONS the pulley condition is available through March 1990.
AND LIMITATIONS

SERVICE Cars returned for service will have a new power steering
ACTION pump pulley installed at no charge.

REFUNDS Any owner who has paid for the repairs described in this program will be refunded the costs of parts and labor. Repairs must have been made prior to the receipt of the notification of this program. Refund requests must be made by March 31, 1990.

OWNER Affected owners will be notified with the letter shown on
NOTIFICATION Attachment II. Note: FIES is alerting all owners in Federalized
LETTER export markets and in selected non-Federalized FIES areas where
direct owner contact is not restricted.

Technical and administrative instructions are provided on Attachment I.
