ISSUE: Distortion and warpage around the defroster openings of the instrument panel pad may be caused by upper mounting tabs on the dash panel that are bent out of position. The mounting tabs may have been bent at the time the instrument panel pad was installed in the vehicle.

ACTION: To correct this, reposition the mounting tabs on the dash panel to the proper position and install a new instrument panel pad. Refer to the following service procedure.

1. Remove the instrument panel pad from the vehicle. Refer to the 1987 Car Shop Manual, Volume C, Section 45-61 for removal procedure.

2. Fabricate two (2) templates out of a rigid material as shown in Figures 3 and 4.

3. Position the templates under the mounting tabs.

4. Bend the mounting tabs on the dash panel as required to match the shape of the templates.

5. Install a new instrument panel pad in the vehicle. Refer to the 1987 Car Shop Manual, Volume C, Section 45-61 for the installation procedure.
