DURING COLD WEATHER SPECIAL STARTING INSTRUCTIONS
FORD: 1987 TEMPO
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1987 TOPAZ
ISSUE: Hard starting or a no-start condition in ambient temperatures of 15~ to 40~F/ -10~ to 5~C may be caused by a rich calibration during engine cranking. The rich calibration lets the engine fire, but makes it difficult for the engine to continue to run.
ACTION: Instruct the customer to depress the throttle 1/4 of the way to the floor and hold that position during cold weather starting conditions. Turn ignition key to start, crank engine until engine begins to fire; then slowly release the pedal.
