A/T - AXOD 2-3 Flare And/Or Slips In Third Gear

SUBJECT: FORD AXOD

PROBLEM: 2-3 Flare and/or slips in third gear.

CAUSE: May be a cracked direct clutch piston

The direct clutch piston is made of aluminum and sometimes cracks inside the outer lip seal groove. This may be difficult to see and may air check good if the crack is small.

Use a screwdriver and attempt to lightly pry the groove apart to open any cracks that may be present.
