Crankshaft Damper - Revised Removal Procedure

Article No. 86-24-13

CRANKSHAFT DAMPER - 1.9L - REVISED REMOVAL PROCEDURE

FORD 1987 ESCORT, EXP

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1987 LYNX

The crankshaft damper on the 1987 1.9L engine cannot be removed as outlined in Volume E, Section 21-27-13 of the Car Shop Manual. This resulted from a late design change from a crankshaft pulley to a crankshaft damper. To remove the crankshaft damper, use the following procedure:

1. Remove the accessory drive belts.

2. Connect the Engine Support Bar, D79P-6000-B or equivalent, to the engine.

3. With the engine supported, remove the right hand side engine mount bolt.

4. Lower the engine at the right side until the crankshaft damper bolt clears the frame rail and remove the damper bolt.

5. Raise the engine and then remove the engine damper with tool T81P-6312-A, (Crankshaft Pulley Wrench).
