Article No. SEAT - PROGAMMABLE PROCESSOR SELF-TEST
87-17-2 FEATURE - SHOP MANUAL REVISION

FORD: 1987 THUNDERBIRD

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1987 COUGAR

ISSUE: The programmable seat processor in the 1987 Thunderbird/Cougar vehicles do not have a self-test feature as outlined in the 1987 Car Shop Manual, Volume B, Section 41-08. This feature was deleted prior to Job 1.

ACTION: If service is required, use the following partial self-test diagnostic information.

The "LED" light in the set button of the seat switch can be used for a partial self-test. If after the set button is depressed the "LED" light comes on for five (5) seconds, then the processor is receiving battery voltage from the #54 circuit and the logic ground is okay. It also means that the programmable and manual switch circuits are not shorted to +12 volts.
