Idle Speed: Adjustments

Refer to Specifications chart for curb and fast idle speeds.

Fig. 4 Curb idle speed adjust. 4-120:

Curb Idle Speed, Adjust

1. Place transmission into Neutral.
2. Start and allow engine to reach normal operating temperature, then turn ignition switch to OFF position.
3. Connect a suitable tachometer onto engine as per manufacturer's instructions.
4. Remove timing hole cover and clean flywheel surface, then install suitable reflective tape.
5. With transmission in Neutral, check curb idle speed obtained. If curb idle speed obtained is not as specified, loosen idle speed bolt lock nut and turn idlespeed adjusting bolt clockwise to increase speed or counterclockwise to decrease engine idle speed, Fig. 4.

Fast Idle Speed, Adjust

1. Remove timing mark cover from transmission housing and clean flywheel surface.
2. Install suitable reflective tape.
3. Start and allow engine to reach normal operating temperature.
4. Connect a suitable tachometer onto engine as per manufacturer's instructions.
5. Check fast idle speed. If fast idle speed is not as specified, rotate cold start device (CSD) lever until lever contacts stop. Correct fast idle speed should now be obtained.
