Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Service and Repair

1984---87 ESCORT, EXP, LYNX, TEMPO & TOPAZ
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect electrical connector at fan motor, then disconnect wire loom from clip on shroud.
3. Remove two nuts retaining fan motor and shroud assembly and remove from vehicle.
4. Remove retaining clip from motor shaft and remove fan.
5. Remove three nuts and washers and withdraw fan motor from shroud.
6. Reverse procedure to install, torquing motor to shroud attaching nuts and washers to 44---66 inch lbs. and the fan, motor, shroud assembly retaining nuts to 35---45 inch lbs. on Escort, EXP and Lynx, or 23---33 inch lbs. on Tempo and Topaz.
