Fuel Tank - Standard/Extended Range Identification

FUEL SYSTEM - IDENTIFICATION OF EXTENDED Article No.
RANGE AND STANDARD FUEL TANKS 87-3-9

FORD 1986-87 TAURUS

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1986-87 SABLE

ISSUE: Some confusion seems to exist as to how to identify the standard (16 gallon) fuel tank from the extended range (18.6 gallon) fuel tank.

ACTION: The engineering part number is embossed on the right rear corner (passenger side) of the fuel tank. The first letter of the part number suffix will identify the fuel tank size. Refer to the chart for the correct fuel tank identification.

E7DC - A, A E7DC - B, A
E8DC - A, A E8DC - B, A

NOTE: The second letter of the suffix shows the engineering level. This letter may change in the future, but will not affect the fuel tank size.
