Spring Lock Coupling
CAUTION: Fuel lines will maintain high pressures for extended periods of time. Always perform Fuel Pressure Relief procedure prior to removing a fuel line coupler.REMOVAL
- Twist the fitting to free it from any adhesion at the O-ring seals.
- Fit correct size Spring Lock Coupling Tool to the coupling.
- Close the tool and push it into the open s9de of the cage to expand the garter spring and release the female fitting.
Disconnect Tool:
- After the garter spring is expanded, pull the fittings apart.
- Remove the tool from the disconnected coupling.
INSTALLATION
- Be sure the garter spring is in the cage of the male fitting. If the garter spring is missing, install a new spring by pushing it into the cage opening. If the garter spring is damaged, remove it from the cage with a small wire hook (do not use a screwdriver) and install a new spring.
- Clean all dirt or foreign material from both pieces of the coupling.
Fuel Tube Coupling:
- Replace the missing or damaged O-rings. Use only the O-rings listed.
CAUTION: Use only the specified O-rings as they are made of a special material. The use of any O-rings other than the specified O-rings may cause the connection to leak intermittently during vehicle operation.
- Lubricate the male fitting, the O-rings and the inside of the female fitting with clean engine oil meeting Ford specification ESE-M2C153-E such as Motorcraft oil, or equivalent.
- Fit the female fitting to the male fitting and push until the garter spring snaps over the flared end of the female fitting.
Garter Spring:
- Ensure coupling engagement by pulling on the fitting and visually checking it to be sure the garter spring is over the flared end of the female fitting.
