The 1986 Taurus/Sable 3.0L vehicle exhaust systems are made of 409 stainless steel, the same material as that used on catalytic converters. The 409 stainless steel will exhibit a light rust color after exposure to the environment. This is normal. Do not replace exhaust systems displaying this light rusting or discoloration, as the system integrity is not affected.
