1986 Model Escort Lynx/EXP Emissions System Modification - 1.9L engines with Calibration Codes 6-08A-R25, R27 and R28
Inspection Instructions
1. Verify engine calibration.
2. If engine calibration is 6-08A-R25:
- Audit the engine emissions control system to assure that Emissions Recall 86E55 service has been performed.
- Provide 86E55 service, if necessary, continue with the Modification Instructions, pages 2 through 5.
3. If engine calibration code is 6-08A-R27 or R28, continue with the following Modification Instructions.

Modification Instructions
Removal and Installation
1. Remove air cleaner assembly.
2. Remove power steering reservoir filler neck extension.
3. Disconnect and discard PCV valve and hose assembly from intake manifold, vacuum elbow and separator (Figure 1).
4. Remove and discard PCV vacuum elbow and existing vacuum line from "T" connector.
5. Install new crankcase vent valve and hose assembly.
6. Remove and discard choke pull-down vacuum delay valve and hose assembly (Brown/Black) (Figure 2).
7. Disconnect yellow spark port vacuum line and white EGR port vacuum line from vacuum ports on rear of carburetor (Figure 2, View A).
8. Install 5/32-inch vacuum cap on spark port (Figure 2, View A).
9. Install "T" connector and hose assembly on EGR port on rear of carburetor (Figure 2, View A).
10. Connect yellow spark port vacuum hose and white EGR port vacuum hose to fittings shown in Figure 2, View A.
11. Install 2-inch hose and connector assembly between choke pull-down fitting and existing vacuum hose (Figure 3).
12. Install power steering reservoir filler neck extension.
13. Disconnect vacuum hose from EGR valve and cut approximately 1 inch off end of hose (Figure 4).
14. Install Brown/White vacuum retard delay valve and hose assembly into vacuum line to EGR valve and connect hose to EGR valve (Figure 5).
NOTE:
Brown side of valve goes toward EGR valve.
15. Install air cleaner.
16. Disconnect vacuum hose from the air control side of combination air control and bypass valve. Remove and discard vacuum delay valve from hose and reconnect hose to air control and bypass valve (Figure 6).
17. Disconnect vacuum hose at distributor vacuum advance. Install Green/Black vacuum delay valve and hose assembly (Figure 7).
NOTE:
Green side of valve goes toward distributor.
