Camshaft: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove air cleaner assembly.
2. Remove PCV hose, then the accessory drive belts.
3. Remove crankshaft pulley, then the timing belt cover.
4. Remove valve cover attaching bolts and studs, then the valve cover.
5. Set piston of No. 1 cylinder at TDC of compression stroke, then remove rocker arm hex flange nuts, fulcrums and rocker arms.
6. Remove fulcrum washers, then the tappets.
7. Remove distributor assembly, then loosen timing belt tensioner attaching bolts using torque wrench adapter tool No. T81P-6254-A or equivalent.
8. Remove timing belt, then the camshaft sprocket and key.
9. Remove thrust plate, then the fuel pump.
10. Remove ignition coil and coil bracket.
11. Remove camshaft through rear of head, toward transaxle.
12. Reverse procedure to install.
13. Apply a suitable lubricant to camshaft prior to installation, then check seal for wear and damage and replace as necessary.
