Parking Brake Control: Service and Repair


Removal

1. Fully release the parking brake.
2. Remove all tension from the rear cables by backing off the adjusting nut from the equalizer or adjuster.
3. Disconnect vacuum hose from the vacuum release motor.
4. Disconnect wiring connector from the parking brake warning lamp switch.
5. Remove three screws attaching control assembly to cowl side panel.
6. Remove clip and cable end from brake control clevis.
7. Using a 13mm box end wrench to depress retaining tabs on cable fitting, remove conduit from control assembly.
8. Remove control assembly from vehicle.

Installation

1. Position the control assembly in the vehicle.
2. Fit the cable assembly through its mounting hole, and press tabbed retainer into place. Ensure tabs are securely locked into place. Connect the cable end fitting to the control clevis and secure with retaining clip.
3. Install attaching screws to cowl side bracket. Tighten screws to 23-35 Nm (17-26 lb-ft).
4. Connect the vacuum hose to the vacuum release actuator.
5. Connect wiring connector to parking brake warning lamp switch.
6. Check parking brake operation. Adjust as required.
