Rear
Removal
1. Raise vehicle. Remove adjuster nut at adjuster.
2. Disconnect parking brake release spring at frame.
3. Disconnect LH cable from the intermediate cable connector.
4. Using a 13mm box end wrench to depress retaining tabs, remove LH conduit retainer from rod adjuster. Remove cable retainer from the LH lower arm.
5. Release RH cable tabbed conduit retainer from the frame. Remove the clip retaining the RH cable to the frame crossmember.
6. Remove cable retainer from RH lower arm, and disconnect cable from retainer on RH upper arm.
7. Remove rear wheels and brake drums.
8. Working on the wheel side of the rear brake, remove the brake automatic adjuster spring. Compress the prongs on the parking brake cable retainer, so they can pass through the hole in the brake backing plate. Pull cable retainer through hole.
9. With the tension off the cable spring at the parking brake lever, lift the cable end out of the slot in the lever. Remove cable through backing plate hole.
10. Remove the cables from the vehicle.
Installation
1. Position the cables approximately in their installed position. Insert enough of the parking brake cable through the brake backing plate hole, so the cable end can be attached to the parking brake lever on the rear brake shoe.
2. Pull the excess slack from the cable wire inside the brake, and push the cable conduit through the backing plate hole until the retainer prongs expand. The prongs must be securely locked in place. Install the automatic brake adjuster spring.
3. Install the brake drums and rear wheels.
4. Attach the RH cable to the RH upper and lower arm, frame crossmember, and through the frame bracket using the existing retaining clips. Press tabbed retainer into crossmember hole until it is securely locked into place.
5. Attach the LH cable to the LH lower arm with retainer, and route cable toward front of vehicle. Be sure to route cable over the RH cable.
6. Install the LH cable through the flanged hole in the adjuster, and press tabbed retainer into place.
7. Connect the LH cable end to the connector at the intermediate cable.
8. Insert the threaded rod of the RH cable through two holes in the adjuster. Loosely attach the adjuster nut.
9. Install the cable release springs to the frame attaching hole.
10. Adjust the parking brake.
11. Lower vehicle.
