ISSUE: Spark knock, spark plug fouling and/or excessive oil consumption on 1985 through 1987 vehicles equipped with a 2.3L OHC turbocharged engine or 1987 Mustangs equipped with a 2.3L OHC engine may be caused by engine oil being drawn into the air intake system. This is caused by the engine oil level in the crankcase being too high because of incorrect markings/wording "MAXFILL" on the oil dipstick.
ACTION: To correct this, install one of the following new calibrated dipsticks (E7ZZ-6750-A, 2.3L OHC) or (E7SZ- 6750-B, 2.3L OHC turbo) depending on the application. Refer to the following service procedure for the installation information.
1. Drain the engine oil and remove the old oil filter.
2. Install a new oil filter and add exactly (5) five quarts of new engine oil.
3. Install the new calibrated dipstick.
