Removal

1. Drain the cooling system. Remove the air inlet tube.

Remove the fan shroud retaining bolts and position the shroud over the fan. Remove the fan and clutch assembly from the water pump shaft. Remove the shroud.

2. Remove the generator drive belt.

Remove all accessory brackets which attach to the water pump. Remove the water pump pulley.

3. Disconnect the radiator lower hose, heater hose and water pump bypass hose at the water pump.

Remove the front cover attaching bolts except the water pump attaching bolts. Leave water pump attached to the front cover.

6. Drain the crankcase.

Timing Chain R&R:




7. Remove the crankshaft pulley from the crankshaft vibration damper. Remove the damper attaching capscrew and washer. Install Crankshaft Damper Remover or equivalent on the crankshaft vibration damper. Remove the vibration damper.

8. Remove the oil pan-to-cylinder front cover attaching bolts. Carefully separate the cylinder front cover from the oil pan gasket. Remove the cylinder front cover and water pump as an assembly.

NOTE: Cover the front oil pan opening while the cover assembly is off to prevent foreign material from entering the pan.

If a new front cover is to be installed, remove the water pump from the old cylinder front cover and install it on the new cover.

9. Discard the cylinder front cover gasket.

10. Check the timing chain deflection.




11. Crank the engine until the timing marks on the sprockets are positioned.

Timing Chain R&R:




12. Remove the camshaft sprocket capscrew and washer. Slide both sprockets and the timing chain forward, and remove them as an assembly.
