Installation

1. Position the sprockets and timing chain on the camshaft and crankshaft simultaneously. Ensure timing marks on the sprockets are positioned.

2. Install the washer and camshaft sprocket capscrew. Tighten the sprocket capscrew to 54-61 Nm (40-45 lb-ft).

3. Clean the cylinder front cover and the block gasket surfaces.

4. Install a new oil seal in the cylinder front cover.

5. Lubricate the timing chain with engine oil.

6. Coat surface of the oil pan gasket with sealer. Apply Silicone Rubber or equivalent at the corners.

NOTE: Gasket and Trim Adhesive or equivalent is recommended to hold the gasket in position during assembly.

7. Coat the gasket surfaces of the block and cover with Perfect Seal Sealing Compound or equivalent, and position a new gasket on the block.

8. Position the cylinder front cover on the cylinder block. Use care when installing the cover to avoid seal damage or possible gasket mis-location.

9. Install the cylinder front cover to seal alignment tool into proper position.

10. It may be necessary to force the cover downward to slightly compress the pan gasket. This operation can be facilitated by using Front Cover Aligner or equivalent, at the front cover attaching hole locations.

11. Coat the threads of the retaining screws with oil resistant Pipe Sealant with Teflon or equivalent and install the screws. While pushing in on the alignment tool, tighten the oil pan-to-cover retaining screws to 12-15 Nm(9-11 lb-ft).

Timing Cover Aligner:

12. Tighten the cover-to-block retaining screws to 16-24 Nm (12-18 lb-ft). Remove the pilot.

13. Apply Multi-Purpose Grease or equivalent to the oil seal rubbing surface of the vibration damper inner hub to prevent damage to the seal. Apply Silicone Gasket and Sealant or equivalent to the keyway before installing on the crankshaft.

14. Line up the crankshaft vibration damper keyway with the key on the crankshaft. Install the vibration damper on the crankshaft using Crankshaft Sprocket and Damper Replacer or equivalent. Install the capscrew and washer. Tighten the screw to 95-122 Nm (70-90 lb-ft). Install the crankshaft pulley.

15. Connect the radiator hose, heater hose and water pump bypass hose at the water pump.

16. Install all the accessory brackets which attach to the water pump. Place the water pump pulley on the water pump shaft.

17. Position the fan shroud over the water pump pulley and install the fan drive clutch and fan. Install the shroud retaining bolts.

18. Install the drive belt.

19. Fill and bleed the cooling system. Operate the engine until normal operating temperatures have been reached and check for leaks.

20. Fill the crankcase with the proper grade and quantity of engine oil.

21. Fill and bleed the cooling system.

Crankshaft Sprocket And Damper Replacer:

22. Operate the engine at fast idle. Check coolant and oil leaks. Check and adjust the ignition timing.
