1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect all underhood wiring connectors from main wiring harness. Remove rubber grommet seal from dash panel and push wiring harness and connectors into passenger compartment.
3. Remove two extension steering column shroud to dash attaching screws and remove shroud, Fig. 1.
4. Remove three steering column cover attaching screws.
5. Remove two hood release mechanism retaining nuts.
6. Remove four steering column to lower brake pedal support retaining nuts, then lower steering column.
7. Remove console assembly as follows:
a. Remove two access covers at rear of console to gain access to arm rest retaining bolts.
b. Remove four armrest to floor bracket retaining bolts and remove armrest assembly, Fig. 2.
c. On models with automatic transmission, remove shift lever opening finish panel.
d. On models with manual transmission, remove shift knob and slide boot and finish panel up shift lever to remove.
e. On all models, position emergency brake lever in the up position.
f. Remove four top finish panel retaining screws, then disconnect necessary electrical connectors and remove panel, Fig. 3.
g. Remove two console to rear floor bracket retaining screws.
h. Insert a small screwdriver into two notches at bottom of front upper finish panel and snap out, Fig. 4.
i. Remove radio, then using a small screwdriver pry radio finish cover from front of console.
j. Open glove compartment door and drop glove compartment assembly down. If equipped with remote control fuel filler door, switch must be removed. Remove two instrument panel to console retaining screws.
k. Remove four console to bracket retaining screws.
l. Remove console from the vehicle.
8. Snap out defroster grille, then remove screws from speaker covers and snap out.
9. Remove four steering column brace to cowl side retaining screws.
10. Remove right and left side cowl panels.
11. Remove cowl side retain bolts from each side of the panel, Fig. 5.
12. Remove brake pedal support nut, then five cowl top screw attachments.
13. Gently pull instrument panel away from cowl, then disconnect air conditioning controls and wire connectors.
14. Remove instrument panel from vehicle.
15. Reverse procedure to install.
